Americans’ take on Memorial Day is as diverse as our nation itself. Many use the three-day holiday as a time to visit relatives out of town. Bargain hunters seize the opportunity to grab the latest sales and savings. Others mark the occasion as the official beginning of summer with barbecues, picnics and other outdoor activities. And for millions of Americans, the day is and should remain a deeply somber occasion to reflect on memories of deceased family members and friends.
